This page is for Rasmus and Asterias, the personification of the Holy See, who belongs to one of my best friends Echo. NorVat is a ship of our own making, a relationship we put a lot of research and love into, and it means the world to me. Here you can find all the little intricate details of their thousand years of love. <3
• Ras and Aster met in 1079 after Pope Gregory VII penned a letter to Olaf III suggesting he send young men to be trained “under the wings of Peter and Paul” in Rome. Rasmus was sent because he already had some understanding of Latin and it was best he, as the Norway, go to set an example for other Norwegians. He spent nearly a whole year in Rome studying Latin and faith, and in the process ended up developing a massive crush on Aster. He can’t remember the exact day they met, so he’s always considered December 15th – the day the original letter was dated – special to him.
• It was during this trip that Aster gave him the name Rasmus, which he has obviously gone by since. Rasmus’ name means “worthy of love” and he has always been very proud of it. Whenever he starts to feel melancholy, it helps to think that Aster didn’t name him that for no reason.
• Rasmus kept coming back to Rome regularly, both for Jubilees and simply to see Aster. It’s always been apparent Ras liked him; when they didn’t need to be together Ras would wander around waiting for him, and whenever Aster came back from a battle, he would be the first person to greet him. Having the privilege to help him put on and take off his armor was very dear to him, and though he tried not to show it, he would get a bit jealous of anyone else who got to spend the day with him or touch his armor.
